Integrating Remote Utilities with RU Server

This tutorial explains how to configure Viewer and Host in order to connect through RU Server. For instructions on how to configure address book synchronization, please refer to this page.

In this tutorial we assume that you already familiarized yourself with RU Server and installed it.

Configuring Host

  1. Right-click on the Host icon in the system tray and select Settings for Host:
  2. Click Settings for Host button and select Internet ID connection settings from the menu:
  3. The Internet ID dialog will open. When the Host has been freshly installed, there is no Internet ID assigned to this PC yet:
  4. Click the Get New ID button. The program will generate the Internet ID:
  5. Click Advanced and select Select Internet-ID Server item:
  6. Clear the Use default server check box and enter the IP address or DNS name of the RU Server in the Custom Server field:
  7. Click OK. Now this particular Host will use the RU Server as its intermediary for ID connection.

Configuring Viewer

  1. Select a connection in the Viewer, right click on the connection thumbnail and select Properties.
  2. In the General section select Internet ID connection and enter the ID code from step 4 of the Host configuration section:
  3. Click the Change button under the Internet ID field:
  4. Clear the Use default server check box and enter the IP address or DNS name of the RU Server in the Custom Server field:
  5. Click OK. Now this particular connection will use the RU Server as its intermediary server.

Connecting

In order to connect from the Viewer to the Host, simply double click the connection in the Viewer. If you configured everything properly, the Viewer and Host will use your self-hosted server as an intermediary instead of our company's servers.
