Please, note that we do not tolerate comparative and general statements like "Product X is better (faster, cheaper etc.) than Remote Utilities" here on this forum. All such messages will be deleted without warning and the user will be banned.
If you are connecting directly using the IP address of the remote PC, there shouldn't be any issues with speed provided that you have good network connection.
Also, please note that different programs have different initial (default) color settings, and some of them can even automatically adjust the quality depending on the speed "better". If you want to compare apples to apples, just set exactly same connection settings in different programs.
*Last encounter with this problem the users at the remote machine was not very techsavy. I asked for a restart of the Agent, but the whole machine was restarted instead :-) This is the same machine I'll try to get hold of the logs from.
So am I right assuming that without restarting the remote Host you can't get to the remote PC after it switched to the VPN?
We neither limit nor control the bandwidth used by Remote Utilities. It always uses the full bandwidth. I'm afraid that the issue is elsewhere. BTW, do you 16-bit color or 16 colors? These two are different things.
Could it be so that our intermediary server is unavailable at all once the remote PC enters the VPN? Could you please send us the log files - just send an email to support@our_domain_name.com with the subject "Restart and reconnect work / don't work" and attach the log files. You'll find them in C:\Program Files\Remote Utilities - Host\Logs\ folder. Just zip the entire folder and send the zipped file.
