Direct connect arbitration

I did this because previous version of RU is slow, so I want to bypass any servers or internet speed issues. However, doing this requires port forwards.

Automatic performance settings adjustment and a more user-friendly Speed/Balanced/Performance selector are under way. I must acknowledge that in their current form RU's performance settings aren't especially intuitive.

Win 10 Start menu open slows down RU

Hi Jeremy,

This might be mitigated a bit (in theory) if you adjust some performance settings, like enabling the Economy Mode. Here is more information https://www.remoteutilities.com/support/kb/slow-remote-connection-speed-performance/

Hope that helps.

adding connections directly to the viewer

Hello Jeremy,

When you are connecting to a remote Host/Agent from Viewer that means that you already have the corresponding record added to the address book :) So there is nothing to push anymore in this scenario because you already know the ID of the remote Host.

Currently, there are three methods of getting a remote Host ID information and add it to the Viewer:

1. "Manually", which means literally noting down the ID or getting it from the remote user via email, Skype etc.

2. Having Host/Agent send the access credentials to you via email (by specifying your SMTP server credentials when configuring your installer).

3. Enabling auto-import in RU Server settings. That means, of course, that you should install and use RU Server and sync your address book through it.

That said, implementing an online account is on our wish list too albeit not in immediate plans.

Don't hesitate to ask, if you have other questions.

Hello Mike,

For the online option you can simply stop the Host and that should suffice. For the legacy option though you must still uninstall the Host because it uses msiexec locally on your computer.

Hope that helps.

i using host 6.9 , server 2.7, and viewer 6.9 version

By the way, I highly recommend that you update Viewer and Host to the latest version.

Hello,

Thank you for your message.

Unfortunately, we couldn't reproduce the problem in our testing laboratory.

Hello Khasia,

If you want to connect to a remote Host located behind a router over the Internet you have the following options:

1. Set up port forwarding on the router to establish direct connection with Host.  You don't need to use RU Server for that.

2. You can set up Internet-ID connection through our public hosted ID service. This works out-of-the-box, again you don't need RU Server for that. Just follow this connecting tutorial.

3. You can set up Internet-ID connection and use your own self-hosted server (RU Server) to broker the connection. This is a more advanced option than the first two - you should install RU Server, make sure it is externally accessible and set up Viewer and Host accordingly.

While you can go either way, the easiest option is #2 and the most complex option is #3. Option 1 (direct connection) is good if you have access to your router on the Host side. This option provides the best performance and speed possible.

Hope that helps.

Frequent disconnects

Hello Thierry,

I have been told the problem is my network although I have been using competing products without an issue..

I am sorry, but the fact that competing solutions work doesn't necessarily mean that Remote Utilities may not be blocked on a router or antivirus/firewall software level or otherwise. We don't know the specifics of your network, your router firmware, security settings, corporate policy, IP/website filtering policy - the list goes on and on. How are we supposed to resolve these issues while not having access to the environment itself? It's only the system administrator of that specific network who can help you figure out why a standard TCP/IP application such as Remote Utilities cannot (or isn't allowed to) send packets to a remote server (or directly to Host for that matter).

Hope that helps.

Hello Bob,

For persistent unattended access we would recommend that you install Host rather than run Agent.
