Yes, adding directory with an asterisk at the end should help. I.e. "C:\Program Files\Remote Utilities - Viewer\*".

Please, note that if you have 64-bit operating system, the Viewer folder will be located in "Program Files (x86)"

Hi Peter,

Thanks for the message. It will certainly help if anyone else shares their experience with this.

Hello Jean-Marc,

Thank you for your report.

We will certainly send a false positive report to Avira. Meanwhile, you can try to add the program folder (C:\Program Files\Remote Utilities - Viewer\) to Avira exceptions list.

Hope that helps.

Maybe your software could detect that Host is already running and popup an informative message similar to Conrad's response here?

We'll think about this, John. Thanks!

I asked whether they can "run" together. I just tried stopping Host, and running agent, and that worked. So it appears you do not need to uninstall Host, just stop it.

That's correct.

Is it possible to run "Host" and "Agent" simultaneously on the same PC?  I got this error while trying to run agent.exe on a PC already running Host.  Windows 7.

Hi John,

No, they are mutually exclusive. The Agent is mostly for quick ad hoc support, whereas the Host is a complete app/service that allows you both unattended and attended support.

They share the same program code, that's why they can't run simultaneously. If you want Host to act like Agent, simply enable the Ask User Permission feature.

Hope that helps.

Thanks for info, John :) It will certainly be helpful for those who have issues downloading the Agent in FireFox.

Hi Chris,

Yes, that's often the case with screensavers, unfortunately. Very pesky programs I should say.  :)

 5 Disable screensaver and wallpaper

You can disable the wallpaper in connection Properties -> Additional properties -> Remove wallpaper. As for a running screensaver, it gets switched off once you connect to the remote PC in the Full Control mode and do some action, like a mouse click.

Hope that helps.

Remote install with the same ID

Hi Chris,

There are couple of reasons why a new ID is generated:

1. You check "Generate new ID and send via email" option on step 3 of MSI configuration process. Don't do that if you don't want a new ID generated.

2. You leave "Keep remote Host's INternet ID settings" check box empty on Step 4. You should check that checkbox if you want to keep the ID of the Host you are upgrading.

3. Finally, on the last step when Host settings window appears at the end of the configuration process, do NOT generate the ID in the "Internet ID connection settings". Otherwise, if you do, it'll generate a fixed ID value that will be the same for each installation you use that output installer file for.

Hope that helps.

Hi Chris,

1. Already on our wish list.

2. Ok, we'll take a look.

3. Didn't get the question. How can you possibly upgrade from Viewer to Host when these are completely different modules with different purpose? Did you mean Agent rather than Viewer?

4. This is what the Agent is supposed to be used for. The remote user can simply download it right onto their desktop and run when the remote session is about to start. The ID and password are then displayed in the Agent window.

As for the Host module, it was intended primary for unattended access when no user intervention is necessary for the remote session to start.
