Could you please elaborate on your RU settings?I have evaluated other remote access software all subscription based and using the same test file which is an exe to install MS power toys 316MB.
Two competitors to RemoteUtilities were able to transfer the same exe file over the LAN here in under 5 minutes or less.
1. Are both Viewer and Host updated to the same version, 7.8.4.0?
2. Are you using a Direct connection? An Internet-ID connection can auto-detect a LAN route and switch to it, but sometimes it can't, especially if the Host's listening port isn't open on the remote computer. Make sure you use a Direct connection, i.e. specify the local IP address in the connection properties for that specific connection.
Basically, it's this:
Fix for Windows 11 SMB issue affecting NAS and LAN Speeds
Open PowerShell with Admin Priv.
Copy/Paste - Set-SmbClientConfiguration -RequireSecuritySignature $false
Type A and hit Enter
Reboot
Was that a 318MB file for powertoys installer? That is the size of the file I use to test with.Benny Tucker wrote:
I don't know then. I just transferred the Power Toys install .exe file from my laptop to my desktop using RU File Transfer, and it was something like 30 - 40 seconds. I'm about out of ideas for your case. Something is mis-configured for sure.
Viewer 7.8.4.0 and Host 7.8.4.0 (79840). Using a Inernet-ID connection.Conrad Sallian wrote:

I se t it to IP connection on the LAN connected fine. Tried to do a file transfer. Clicked on COPY in the file transfer window and the window closed. I have tried multiple time to bring up the file transfer window and it fails to open yet the Active Connections bug in the lower right corner of the remote computer shows File transfer active. I have tried restarting the host and even rebooting the host and the result is always the same. The File Transfer Window fails to opn up on the viewer side.
The Host showing "File transfer active" means the session is being set up. The window going away is on the Viewer side, and the usual fix for that is resetting the Viewer configuration file:
1. Exit the Viewer completely via File -> Exit.
2. Delete
config_4.xmlfrom
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Roaming\Remote Utilities Files\(AppData is hidden by default, so turn on hidden items in Explorer first).
3. Start the Viewer again.
Your address book isn't affected, but you'll need to register the Viewer with your license key again afterwards.
If it still closes, add the Viewer and Host installation folders to the exclusion list of any antivirus on both machines, including Windows' own protection. Antivirus interfering with a file in flight is a known cause of File Transfer failing partway.
If neither helps, please send us the Viewer log and the Host log covering a failed attempt to support@, and we'll look into it.
No, it was the Power Toys that I downloaded from MS, just for testing.Snowbound wrote:

PowerToysUserSetup-0.101.2362.0-x64.exe, 289 MB. Close enough.
I just tried it again, and this time I timed the transfer with a stopwatch. 44 seconds. So I was off a few seconds in my earlier estimate.
I can only imagine that the 318 MB version that you have would only take 1 or 2 seconds more.
Sorry, I'm out of ideas.
I have a free license key in my email account from 7 years but I have no idea if that is the same key as I am using currently. Would that cause an issue if I use a different free key?Conrad Sallian wrote:
Thanks, that rules out the two most common causes. Both sides being on 7.8.4.0 and a Direct connection over the LAN is the right setup.

The key doesn't make any difference. You can re-generate it if you want.I have a free license key in my email account from 7 years but I have no idea if that is the same key as I am using currently. Would that cause an issue if I use a different free key?
