Issues with Hosts after Windows 8, 10 updates affecting Client host settings

Keith,

We didn't receive any reports recently about the antivirus programs that you mentioned treating our Host badly. We also do regular checks on our own and monitor antivirus activity as it applies to Remote Utilities. There was nothing alarming.

Still, what you describe looks very much like antivirus software activity. Please, do report to us if you find a consistent pattern.

Thank you!

Hello Keith,

Thank you for your post. Couple of questions:

1) Is there any antivirus software installed on the remote PC? If yes which one?

2) Did you upgrade Windows (8.1 and earlier) to Windows 10 with the Host having already been installed?

Hello Norbert,

Thank you for your message.

The built-in Remote Install tool is just for that purpose.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hello Jason,

Thank you for your question.

would that bring me back to 0 connections, or will I be at 1/10 and always be 1/10 regardless if I connect to another computer (then becoming 2/10) etc.

It will bring you to 0 connections. The "counter" is on the Viewer side only - only the number of your address book records counts against the license.

Don't hesitate to ask me if you have other questions.

Hello Mark,

Thank you for your message.

Sorry, so far this is the only mode available, but we plan to implement monitor switching in the near future.

IP address information for accessing remote host through firewall

Hello Sujoy,

Thank you for your message.

From the documentation, I came to know that for the Internet ID connection to work, at least one combination of port numbers must be open/allowed in the firewall'soutbound rules on the Viewer side.

That is correct.

In order to allow access, our company firewall will also require the IP address (along with the port number) that the software uses to connect.

Use the DNS name server.rutils.com and/or the IP address it resolves to 70.38.38.43.

Hope that helps.

Multiple Monitors Showing as Tabs

Hello Steven,

Thank you for your suggestion. We will think about how we could implement it.

Meanwhile, you can use the following workaround. Create to identical connections in your address book. By "identical" here I mean connections for accessing the same remote PC. When you open a connection and switch to a specific remote monitor using the corresponding toggle icon on the toolbar, the program remembers your monitor choice. The next time you connect through that connection you will see the monitor you've seen the last time.

So, you can view two remote monitors of the same remote Host side by side in your Full Control window as tabs, if you open both connections simultaneously, each one with its own remembered monitor.

Hope that helps.

Hello Trevor,

2. Yes, just makes stretch mode a little less squashy than with 2 screens on the 1 monitor.

I had a talk with our developers and we decided to add this feature to our wishlist.

FR: How about a "Send WOL through the following host" option/feature which could be added to the Properties->Network tab? The ability to send WOL packets from the host of a computer or server you know is always on, on a remote network or subnet? Obviously if it's not there already, you would need to add the WOL code to the host agent.

Yes, this is something we already have on our roadmap and will implement in the future.

Thank you!

Hi Trevor,

1. Well, although you have to choose either ID or direct within the same connection properties, you can still create a duplicate connection for that same remote PC. You can then select ID for one connection, and direct - for the other. But this doesn't make much sense because as I said the program can automatically detect direct connectivity even if you use ID.

2.  You mean stretching the Full Control mode window? We'll see if we can implement this in-program.
