One thing I have noticed:
I've been using 2 addresses to my self hosted interned id server.
1. I've been using the IP address in one of them so that when I'm local, it works by IP.
2. When I'm out and about, I use the DNS address for the same server.
So then, If I've been using the DNS name while I'm out and about, it works just fine.
If I then, within a few minutes arrive on location and try to use the IP address id server, it fails as shown in one of the photos above.
However, after a period of time, not sure exactly how long, it will start working again with the IP address. This all works fine until I step away again and I try to use the DNS name, it fails again until a period of time has passed again.
I've tried everything I can think of. Rebooting the computer that the mini-id server resides on, Stopping and restarting the mini-id server, flushing the DNS cache on local and remote machines, including restarting the iPhone and tablets. Nothing works, except waiting for some cache somewhere to reset.
Otherwise, Kudos for such a wonderful upgrade to the IOS app.....

If you are using NAT port forwarding on your router, you may need to look at split-DNS or NAT lookback/reflection/hairpinning. That way you can use the same DNS name while on your local network and away.

Hi Benny,

Just to clarify, do you mean you have created two ID server records in the Server Manager and you sign in to either of them depending on where you are at the moment?

In other words, it is not about connecting via RU Server (as a relay) but about signing in on it for address book sync etc. ?

Hi Conrad,
I can connect to the server just fine. Using DNS address or IP address. I'm using more for Internet ID, more than syncing address books and such. I've been using the IP address for local connections to the server and DNS address for when I'm away from the local WiFi. I also have everything set up for Direct Connections, but I really like the online dot lighting up when I use the Internet ID connection type. Direct Connection does not show my computers online status like the Internet ID does. I really only use the address book sync function for a 1 time sync with a new device, then if I need to customize the connection for that specific device, I can log out of the server, customize the connections for that device, and save them for that device only. I hope that makes sense. It's working really well for me that way...

Hi Benny,

Thank you for the details. Two things here:

1. In theory, we could add online status checking for direct connections in the mobile app, just as it is implemented in the desktop Viewer. However, this feature is a bit demanding in terms of network load, so it may cause network issues when the address book contains hundreds of entries (a typical corporate use case, by the way). We would rather not add that at this time.

2. You don't have to use two separate entries; you can use just the Internet-ID-based one. Online status checking for Internet-ID connections is lightweight and works differently from direct connections. Besides, if both Viewer and Host are on the same local network and the standard Host listening port is open on the Host machine, Viewer can find a direct route to the Host. So with an Internet-ID-based connection you get the best of both worlds: a fast, direct connection on the local network and the ability to check online status (the yellow dot).
Thank You so much Conrad,
That makes perfect sense. I've got everything set up like that now, and everything is working great.
I actually looked into my home ASUS router, and it supports loopback natively. So, I didn't know that until just a day or so ago. I had just assumed that I needed to use the IP connection when at home, and the DNS name when out of WiFi range, or on the road. It's working beautifully now.
Thank You and the rest of the RU team for this huge upgrade.

I would like to add a feature request.
For the RU ID server, now that it shows all the viewers I have logged into, if there was an X on that screen that I could terminate all or some of the connections I have logged in fr om. I've noticed that the only way to clear those connections is to stop and restart the server. I have viewers on about 8 different machines, and iPhones-iPads, depending on wh ere I am that day. Even when I totally log out, All the connections remain in the Viewers tab of the server dialog. I only have a license for 1 tech, and sometimes when I leave a machine I accidentally leave the viewer running. If I could just log into the remote admin panel of the server and terminate them there, it would be great!!

Thank you once again for such a wonderful remote software!!
Hi Benny,

Thank you for the suggestion. We will definitely add it on our wishlist. Besides, the very interface of RU Server may be refined in the future so this feature may be part of that overhaul.
Hi Rob,

A new version update is available that fixes this issue. Please, check it out (v. 14.2.1).
