Host Owner wishes Access

Links used in this discussion
I'm a 2-Pro license.  Occasionally I've been asked by one of the Host owners if it's possible for them to access their own personal computer at work from their own desktop at home.  Both devices are in my Address List for periodic servicing/tutorials.  How could this be done without offending RU licensing?  In other instances, I've recommended a different remote program.
I'vfe thought about the possibility of a Host owner having a free RU account just for that purpose but have never tried it nor will I without questions and research.
Thanks for any information you can provide.

Hello Finge,

Thank you for your message.

Yes, the Host owner can absolutely use Remote Utilities with a free license for personal remote access purposes. They simply need to install Viewer on their home PC and connect to their work Host - no need to use your Pro license for that.

Here are a few useful options and resources:

1. They can obtain a free license on this page.

2. They can install standard Viewer on their home PC, or if they prefer not to install anything, they can use Portable Viewer and Agent.

3. This Quick Start Guide covers the basics of setting up Host and connecting with Viewer.

4. We also offer a 30-day free trial upon the installation of Remote Utilities.

This setup keeps it compliant with RU’s licensing terms, as long as each person only uses their own free license for personal access.

Let us know if you have more questions.
Thanks Pauline ....
I assume they can use the same ID address I do but I'd like them to have their own passcode different from the one I use.  Is it possible I can retain the passcode I use to get to their systems, but they can have a separate passcode to get to their host?
(modified reply) = Well that didn't work.  I tried installed the Viewer onto their home desktop and used the same ID to access their laptop and the result was surprising.  It logged on and immediately started recreating the connection in a way hard to describe, almost in a connection loop.  Fortunately, the X-Out was available to stop the loop.  I contacted the user and asked them to try it.  Same result and they were able to X-Out.  So, using the same ID with two different licenses doesn't work, or it could be the use of the same ID+same Passcode.  Not sure.  I plan to screen capture this phenomenon.  I cold upload an image for review.  Not sure if I could upload a screen capture.
Your Thoughts ......

Hi Finge,

Thank you for the follow up on this.

Have you tried running Agent on the target remote machine and have your customer connect to it?
You can also set up separate users using the Remote Utilities security authentication method - this way each user can have their own login and password to connect to the remote Host in question.

Let us know if this works.
