Using 7.8.4.0 of the viewer and 7.8.4.0 and the response is horrendous. I click on something that causes a UAC popup I click on the accept and there is at least a 5 second delay before I see a response from the remote system.
The remote system is a i7-14700 next to my computer. It is currently running on wifi but I am seeing the same response on a wired connection on my 500/500 fibre internet connection here.
I have no such delay using another remote access app instead.

Hello,
Thank you for your message.
Could you please try enabling the Use legacy capture mode option in the Host Settings -> Other tab and see if it might improve the response time? Make sure to restart your remote Host to apply the changes.
Let us know if this helps to resolve the issue.

I do not know if it is much of an improvement or not. For instance when I click on the Host icon in the systray, while connected and select SETTINGS FOR HOST, UAC pops up relatively quickly. I click on YES and it takes at least 5 seconds before I see the Host Setting screen show up. The Host is an i7-14700 on Win11 25H2 and the viewer is a AMD 5900XT on the same LAN on a 500/500 Fiber connection.

I had a similar experience myself. The fix for me was to open the properties of "C:\Program Files (x86)\Remote Utilities - Viewer\rutview.exe", and under the compatibility tab, make sure to check the box, "Run this program as an administrator. Fixed it for me. YMMV.

Thanks for the suggestion but after doing that still took over 7 mins to transfer the test file to the remote computer.Benny Tucker wrote:

What is more maddening is that if you happen to install an old version of Remote Utilities Host for whatever reason the viewer will never connect to the Host and the Host will never update to the more current version. I spent about an hour trying to figure out what was the issue and blamed it on Windows updates being installed when in fact it was a grossly outdated Host installer.
Thanks anyways for the suggestion.

Hello,
A newer Viewer can connect to older Hosts, but only up to a point — certain connection modes may not work as expected, and we recommend upgrading as soon as possible whenever there is a version mismatch. Remote Utilities is dual software by nature: the two modules are meant to come as a pair, at the same version. Unfortunately, we cannot test every possible combination of Viewer and Host versions — we only test matching versions. What is more maddening is that if you happen to install an old version of Remote Utilities Host for whatever reason the viewer will never connect to the Host
Version 6 Hosts have supported the Simple Update command since version 6.6.0.5. Before that, the code that handles Simple Update on the Host side simply did not exist. Hosts older than 6.6.0.5 can only be updated manually or by pushing the MSI/EXE installer.and the Host will never update to the more current version.

Sounds like a bottleneck in your routing configuration. If you're transferring files between computers in the same lan, same subnet, then the fiber internet connection means nothing.
If that's the case, are you using ip addresses or DNS addresses in the viewer connection properties? Same lan, same subnet should be a direct connection, no Internet ID server of any kind needed. Use IP addresses.
To test your internal routing speed, download and install Open Speed Test , on both computers. Test the connection speed both ways. Start the server on 1 machine, then with your browser on the 2 machine, navigate to the IP address of the 1 machine. Don't forget to append the port number to the IP address of the 1 machine. Example, 192.168.1.25:3000. Then after testing one way, terminate the server on machine 1, and start the server on machine 2 and follow the same procedure.
Not sure this will help pinpoint the issue, but it's a start. My file transfers are rather fast on my local lan. Even with the ISP modem completely unplugged.
Hope this helps

Since the all-new Remote Utiliites mobile app now also has the File Transfer mode, I would also recommend testing it from mobile Viewer (in the same LAN/WiFi) and see if there's any difference.

Just to let everyone in this thread know I am a free user of Remote Utilities but am evaluating it for a replacement for my existing remote software come year end for my business clients I support. I have evaluated other remote access software all subscription based and using the same test file which is an exe to install MS power toys 316MB.
Two competitors to RemoteUtilities were able to transfer the same exe file over the LAN here in under 5 minutes or less.
