v7.9.0.0 Edge blocks installer download. Defender blocks rutserv.exe

Hi folks,

With version 7.9.0.0 Edge and Defender are blocking this due to detection of 'Trojan:Win32/Wacatac.H!ml'.
Hello,

Thanks for letting us know. This is a false positive. A new release is a file Microsoft hasn't seen before, and Defender and SmartScreen judge new files largely by reputation and heuristics, so a fresh build often gets flagged for a while after release, signed or not. The block clears as the file builds up reputation and as false positive reports are processed.

What helps:
  • Report the file to Microsoft. In Edge, open the Downloads list, click "..." on the blocked file and choose "Report this file as safe". For the Defender detection, use Microsoft's file submission form. We submit as well, but reports from Microsoft's own users clear it faster.
  • Try the other package format. The .exe and the .msi of the same release are often judged differently, so if one is blocked, the other may install.
  • If rutserv.exe was quarantined, restore it and add the Host folder to the Defender exclusions:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Remote Utilities - Host\
then reinstall or repair the Host.
More details and the links for other antivirus vendors are in this article.

Hope that helps.
