remote control isn't working for me!!

I installed the program on my PC/viewer  (window 7 pro) which is in my office,  and on my laptop/ host at my home also window 7 professional, i typed the ip of my host in the "new connection" box in the viewer but it doesn't work/connect- i can't see my laptop on my pc.
when i brought the laptop to my office and put the ip in the office where my PC is, it worked fine (host and viewer are the same ip)
obviously i need my laptop at home and not at the office, buy then it doesn't connect, what should i do?

Could you please clarify if you want to connect from your laptop at home to your PC at the office using the Direct connection?
In order to connect to the remote Host machine using the Direct connection, the Viewer and Host must be on the same LAN or VPN. Here's a relatable article on establishing a connection over LAN:

You can also establish a direct connection over the Internet, but in order to directly access a Host which is located behind a router over the Internet, you must create a port forwarding rule in the router settings on the Host side.

However, you can connect to the remote Host located behind a router easier, by using an Internet-ID connection. Here's a guide on establishing the Internet-ID connection:
