MSI configurator can't connect to server on Windows 7

Symptoms

When using the MSI Configurator on Windows 7 the following error message appears when attempting to download the output file from the configuration server:

Can't connect to configuration server. Please, check your Internet connection and try again. Retry?

This error might occur because of using outdated security protocols (namely TLS 1.0 and TLS 1.1) which are no longer supported by the configuration server. You must enable TLS 1.2 support on your computer.
