Windows Server STD 2025 - blocked RUT after AD / DC promotion

Any resolution?  I haven't heard back and it is a problem that needs to be solved asap.

Windows Server STD 2025 - blocked RUT after AD / DC promotion

It already was an exception.

Note; once this occurred it has hosed my server and I have spent at least 6 hours trying to get it resolved, the virus definitions now show 0.0.0.0 and there is no resolution I have found searching with Claude, CoPilot, Gemini and Perplexity, other than the suggestion to reinstall Server, which would cost me another 10-12 hours, easily.  To say I am disappointed is being very nice.  I have been a long time user for Remote Utilities and have recommended it to many others, but at this point I am just at a loss.

Nope. Hosed me. Cannot proceed, having to boot server to safe mode with networking to uninstall. Basically I cannot run RU on Server 2025 STD, whether installed from vanilla website host installer or my one click installer

Thank you for the reply. I will not be able to do it on this particular server because it is already been put in a production.

I can try installing the vanilla installer now to see if it works without killing the defender service. When it happens it causes a lot of problems, you have to log back in in safe mode to be able to kill the service. Just so that you can try to get it installed because it keeps spawning installer loops. So I can't do it during the day when I have active users on the server.

I do have another server with basically the same configuration that I can attempt with the vanilla installer and then see if it sticks after I domain join and promote it. I will be working on it in the next few days and we'll report back.

Windows Server STD 2025 - blocked RUT after AD / DC promotion

This is still an issue. I have a Windows server 2025 std that was shipped as a workgroup with Remote Utilities installed. Once on site I domain joined the server then followed standard practice to add AD role, restart and then promote as a DC. Once that happened I lost access with Remote Utilities, and it stopped Windows Defender from starting.  I went through a lot of diagnostics using AI trying to resolve, and then when I come here I find the topic below.  I removed the remote utilities service, restarted the server and Defender is back functional, at which I could uninstall the remote utilities host. I then went through the entire process as described below, demoting, removing AD, restarting, rejoining AD, promoting as DC and it Defender was back functioning. I had deleted the Remote Utilities folders under x86 and program data earlier, so it should have been clean.  Once I reinstalled RUT using a one click installer that I have built and use for others it immediately stops Defender and after the server is restarted remote utilities shows "starting" under services but never loads.  This is using 7.7.3.0.  Is there any resolution?

Help, all connections are showing offline

1:07 EST all my remote current connections dropped and now my address book shows all connections offline.  Something is up.

I am coming from 68.93.142.24x subnet on AT&T GigaFiber and all other internet activity is functioning fine. I can see servers at the same network using RDP and login so I know it is not a local issue.

RUT Viewer does not remember window open location

I use a large 55" 4K monitor and there are times when I use a tabbed view across the top half of my screen to connect to many systems at a time, performing updates, new software installs, etc. It is not uncommon for me to be in 15-20 systems at the same time, depends really on the remote site upload bandwidth.

When I open the initial window, or when a system restarts and brings the window back up the Remote Utilities windows readjusts to either a small thumbnail in the center of the screen, sometimes in a window about 200 x 200 pixels near the upper left, sometimes a 100% 1920 x 1080 HD screen sized window centered on monitor.

I have used a third party add-in, AquaSnap to try to control program placement and had a high degree of success with many other programs, but not Remote Utilties host windows.  The behavior is the same with or without AquaSnap.

At times it is maddening, like a misbehaving child; is there any control we have in adjusting and setting a window?

Thanks in advance!

Keith

Remote Printing removed after 7.2.1.0 simple update?

Remote Printing was uninstalled, I was able to reinstall it by overwriting the install using one click update when logged in locally to the system via Windows Remote Desktop.  I will test further, I have recreated the One Click and MSI Installers I use now that I have the email send working properly, so I can do a remote update that hopefully reenables/reinstalls the remote print function.

MSI Configuration not sending notification with Gmail Google Workspace

Mike G,
Thanks for the enlightment!  I did similar, To resolve the issue I created a free MS Live account, enabled 2FA using Authy Authenticator and then enabled App Specific password for the Remote Utilities Installer. The tests were successful sending using the same app password for the One-Click installer and MSI Installer I created.

Hopefully this will help someone else.  It has not worked sending for me since 3/02/22 and has been frustrating.
