Hi Pauline,

It has been over 2 weeks since I provided the files, but there has not been any suggestions of what to change.
Note, I have purchased several Pro licenses. Hopefully this increases the priority to finding a solution.

Can Sync Address Book use Active Directory to validate User's password

Hi Pauline,

I believe you are talked about using active directory in the Host configuration.

I am asking about using Active Directory (AD) for the RU Server User logon name in the Address Book Manager.
 - 24 Aug 2022 08:28:19
The user's AD password would automatically be used instead of setting a static password.

Then when the user needs to sign in to the RU Server in their viewer they would use their AD credentials for Username and Password.
 - 24 Aug 2022 08:36:46

My RU Host would be configured to use the Custom server security.
 - 24 Aug 2022 09:01:06
The host would communicate with the RU Server though a opening in the VPN firewall and allow/control the appropriate access to the user.

Can Sync Address Book use Active Directory to validate User's password

From what I have read and tried setting up Address Book Sync, the user's password is static (assigned when user is created and only changed by user or admin).

Is it possible to link the password to the user's Active Directory credentials?

This would make it easier for the user to remember their password and login.

In a different application, prefixing the user name with an apparent port number made the password active (change when the user changed their company password). For example 234:john.doe.

Another Custom Server Security Authentication Error

Hi Pauline,

I have 'Custom server security' authentication set on the host (Force custom server security is checkbox is NOT enabled) and access rights to the remote hosts setup in synched Address Book Manager. PIN code protection and Internet-ID Connection Settings have NOT been set on either RU server or Host.

Note, using the managed address book works correctly for hosts within our network. The problem is with external hosts (outside the company firewall). The firewall has been configured to allow traffic from inside our network to the external host using ports 5650, 5655, 5670. As well as traffic from the the external host to the RU Server (inside our network) using port 5655.
The external host can see the RU Server. I can RDP to the external host, right click to host icon, select Settings for Host..., enter password, go to Security -> Authentication then click "Users and access control..." under "Custom server security", enter an appropriate RU server username and password, and see the groups that are allowed access to this host.

Remote computer RAYAPPS02:
   OS: Server 2019 Standard, version 10.0.17763, build 17763, 64-bit
   Host App: Version 7.1.5.0
   Notes:
Host configured for both Remote Utilities security and Custom Server Security.
Can see RU Server objects from Host Configuration -> Custom Server Security -> "User and access control..." window.
MY-COMPUTER:
   OS: Windows 10 Enterprise, version 21H2, build 19044.1826, 64-bit
   Viewer App: Version 7.1.5.0
Location: Outside of company VPN firewall
RU Server computer USSCSAPPS135:
OS: Server 2021 R12 Standard, 64-bit, running on VMWare
   RU Server App: Version 3.2.1.0
Firewall:
Allows bi-directional traffic through port 5655.
Allows outbound traffic through ports 5650 and 5670.

Problem:
Can access RAYAPPS02 using Direct Connection process, so I know communications can happen.
Trying to access RAYAPPS02 from MY-COMPUTER using synched address book. Viewer reports "Custom Server Security Authentication Error".
RAYAPPS02 Host log reports "Exception: Error TMyOpenSSLSocket.WriteStream. (EMyOpenSSLException)."
Yesterday, same error was produced. Decided to reboot RU Server USSCSAPPS135. I believe I was then able to access the RAYAPPS02, but later that day it stopped working.
Tried rebooting RU Server USSCSAPPS135 today, but I still could not establish a connection.

I was going to try to provide a lot of information from all of the computers, but realized it could be too much. So I decided it was best to let you ask questions.

No entries in RU Server Admin Console Active and Idle ta

Currently evaluating unlicensed version of Remote Utilities.

PC:
• Windows 10 Enterprise version 21H2 OS build 19044.1826
• RU Viewer version 7.1.5.0
• RU Server version 3.2.1.0 (Admin Console ONLY)
Server:
• Windows Server 2012 R12 running in a VMWare session
• RU Server version 3.2.1.0
Remote Computer:
• RU Host version 7.1.5.0

Both the Active and Idle tabs do not show any entries on the server Admin Console running on either server and PC.

On the Viewer, I sign in to the server and double click the icon for one or more remote computers. I do NOT have to enter a user name and password, so I believe the session is being authenticated by the server. I have access to the remote computers. The server Admin Console Active and Idle tabs are both empty. Clicking the Admin Console Refresh active button does not change the blank tabs.

Server Admin Console still running after closed. Won't launch again.

Hi Pauline,
I am talked about the Admin Console program (Windows Start➝Remote Utilities Server➝Administration), not the service itself.

Hopefully, the following images of the processes and the Admin Console program will help clarify the information.

 - 09 Aug 2022 02:22:21

 - 09 Aug 2022 02:27:33

While the "Remote Utilities - Server Admin Console (32 bit)" is running, the Admin Console does not become visible if I attempt run Windows Start➝Remote Utilities Server➝Administration again.
 - 09 Aug 2022 02:28:10

Processes after: Ending the "Remote Utilities - Server Admin Console (32 bit)" task. Then restarting the Admin Console. Then selecting File -> Exit to close the Admin Console.
 - 09 Aug 2022 02:28:26

Now I am able to run Windows Start➝Remote Utilities Server➝Administration again and see the Admin Console window.

Server Admin Console still running after closed. Won't launch again.

Thank you for your quick reply.

The Administration program is the one listed under "Remote Utilities Server" in the windows start app area. The program path is "c:\Program Files (x86)\Remote Utilities - Server\InternetIdAdmin.exe".
I think you refer to it as Remote Server Administration Tools.

I was taught the "X" button and File -> Exit menu command should call the same routine and behave the same.

Why would the administration program want to be left running in memory at all when the program is closed?

I am evaluating  the free Remote Utilities for our departments use before buying the Pro version.
I have installed Remote Utilities Server version 3.2.1.0 [3210] on a VMWare machine running Windows Server 2012 R2.

I found I could not run the Administration program again after I had closed it using the X button in the upper right corner.
I found the cause to be the process "Remote Utilities - Server Admin Console (32 bit)" running in the task manager. If I kill that process I can run Administration again. In addition, the process does not show in the task manager until I close the app using the X button. I later found that closing the app using File >> Exit does not leave the process running and I can launch the app again.

Initially, I was thinking this may be an interaction with VMWare, but the difference between closing with the X button and using File >> Exit seems to indicate a bug in the software.
