I did not even know there was a tabbed view and so just used what I thought was the default 'own window' session type.

Anyway, it is good that you have finally tracked this issue down, and look forward to a real fix. In the meantime, use of the tabbed view does address this issue.

The issue with the arrow keys not working still exists in 6.1.0.3.

Keyboard = 104-key US English

Host and viewers both running on Windows 7.

Host version = 6.1.0.3 , Viewer version = 5.6.0.6 = Arrow keys working  :)
Host version = 6.1.0.3 , Viewer version = 6.0.0.4 = Arrow keys NOT working   :!:
Host version = 6.1.0.3 , Viewer version = 6.1.0.3 = Arrow keys NOT working   :!:

Host version = 6.0.0.4 , Viewer version = 5.6.0.6 = Arrow keys working  :)
Host version = 6.0.0.4 , Viewer version = 6.0.0.4 = Arrow keys NOT working   :!:
Host version = 6.0.0.4 , Viewer version = 6.1.0.3 = Arrow keys NOT working   :!:

So it is clearly a bug which was introduced in the viewer after 5.6.0.6 and is independent of the host version.

While it is clear from the lack of fix and comments in this thread that you do not really have a handle on what the issue is, you should be able to look back through your source control system for any change after 5.6.0.6 which impacted arrow keys and revert that change.

I too have this issue with arrow keys not working in remote sessions in version 6.0.0.4.

I reverted the viewer back to 5.6.0.6 and they work in that version. It therefore seems a simple regression bug.
