I know this is an old post but just got the same issue with Windows 10 1903 running on VMware Workstation 15 Pro. As a workaround, I disabled those option in the VM Settings:
- Uncheck: "Accelerate 3d graphics" - Number of monitor: "1 - Maximum resolution: "1920 x 1080"
