Your purchase of a Remote Utilities license is a one-time payment (NOT a subscription). This purchase gives you the right to use the current major version of the software indefinitely and receive free technical support.
You have the following upgrade options:
- Product version upgrade. Upgrading your product installation to a newer version;
- License upgrade. Upgrading your license by adding more techs and/or changing the license type.
These options are described below.
Product version upgrade
Major version release
When a new major version of the product is available, you are entitled to a free upgrade if less than 12 months have elapsed between the purchase date and the major version release date.
A major version is defined by the figure before the first dot in the version number (e.g. version 220.127.116.11 is major version 6).
You are entitled to a paid upgrade with a 50% discount, if more than 12 months have elapsed between the purchase date and the major release date.
License keys are not compatible between major versions. If you have a license key from a previous major version, you must upgrade your key in order to be able to use the new product version. Use our Upgrade Form to upgrade your old license key.
Minor version release
When a new minor version of the product is available, you are entitled to a free update provided that you already own a license key for the current major version.
A minor version is a product version where the figure before the first dot remains unchanged in a new product release. For example, if you are updating version 18.104.22.168 to version 22.214.171.124, you are staying within the same major version (i.e. version 6) and are applying a minor version update.
For minor version updates, your existing license key doesn't have to be replaced or upgraded. Your existing license key remains in the License key storage after you update the Viewer.
You can upgrade your license by either adding more techs to your license or upgrading its license type, or both.
When upgrading your license, you are only paying the difference between the cost of the target license and the cost of your existing license.
License upgrade calculation
The license upgrade cost is calculated using a simple formula:
CU = CTL – CCL
- CU — upgrade cost1
- CTL — cost of target license
- CCL — cost of current license
CTL and CCL are calculated by multilplying the number of techs by the price taken from the appropriate pricing bracket of the volume discounts table.
You want to upgrade your current 3-tech STARTER license to a 3-tech MINI license. When you upgrade from STARTER to MINI you increase the number of address book records each tech can have from 20 (STARTER) to 50 (MINI). In this example the number of allowed concurrent techs (3) stays the same.
- CTL = 3 x $219 = $657
- CCL = 3 x $94 = $282
- CU = $657 - $282 = $375
You can upgrade from 3-tech STARTER to 3-tech MINI for $375.
You want to add 2 more techs to your 3-tech STARTER license, thus expanding it to a 5-tech STARTER license. The license type (STARTER) remains the same. The number of techs who can concurrently work with the license increases from 3 to 5.
- CTL = 5 x $88 = $440
- CCL = 3 x $94 = $282
- CU = $440 - $282 = $158
You can upgrade from 3-tech STARTER to 5-tech STARTER for $158.
Note, that in both examples the prices are taken from the appropriate pricing bracket of the volume discounts table.

1 In some cases the final upgrade cost may be a few cents below the amount calculated by the formula. This is due to payment processing requirements.
