[Resolved] RU host does not work after update to windows 11 24H2
thanks, that is not the issue, i think i already explained that.Conrad Sallian wrote:
One more question. Have you checked the integrity of the Host files in the C:\Program Files(x86)\Remote Utilities - Host installation directory. The files rutserv.exe and rfusclient.exe shoulld be there.
thanks, that was already mentioned, and i replied, that is not the issue.Conrad Sallian wrote:
Please note that when the Host fails to start, the most common reasons are:
1. Security software (this accounts for 99% of cases).
2. Specific settings on the machine that prevent the Host service from starting, such as certain security policies.
since i know this is going to happen again.
you are welcome to remote into such a machine and take a look for yourself.

on the remote host:Conrad Sallian wrote:
Actually, it shouldn't make any difference. Windows Update should be running under a SYSTEM account with highest privileges anyway.
1. I am NOT running windows update.
2. i am running "Windows 11 Installation Assistant" - Windows11InstallationAssistant.exe

ok, sorry about that, my point is that other product works fine, RU is not working.
just to be clear that we are doing the same thing?Conrad Sallian wrote:
We have tested this twice on two different test machines, and we couldn't reproduce it. The Host worked ok.
1. remoted into the host running RU 7.6.2.0.
note this does not happen to me if the host is running, 7.2.2.0
2. ran windows 11 update assistant
3. reboot
4. RU host was online?

sorry, i did not see any screenshots in your last post??Conrad Sallian wrote:
We have sent you screenshots that confirm the test results

please, see the attached screenshot.
host machine: windows 11 23H2, running RU 7.6.2.0
maybe i did not explain my self well, here are the steps to reproduce.
1. using RU viewer, remote into host
2. run windows 11 update assistant to update to 24H2
3. host reboots
4. using RU viewer, notice that host is offline, i CANNOT remote into host machine.
6. on host, cannot start service using service.msc. so i must press the windows key to display the windows start menu, type "start host", run as administrator.

nothing to update, as window machines were already running 7.6.2.0, before I updated to 24H2.Conrad Sallian wrote:
please do not update Hosts on the remote machines with the said Windows update installed.
thanks

but really, that is a not a solution.

that does not really make sense, if windows defender quarantined it, i would have to whitelist it.Conrad Sallian wrote:
It would really help if you take a look at Windows Defender log (or whatever antivirus sofware is installed) on the remote machine with Host installed.
and starting the host from manually would not work.
but anyway, i checked the protection logs, and found nothing. and RU was not quarantined.

yes, that is what i wrote.Conrad Sallian wrote:
Perhaps you meant 24H2?
just tried, starting manually that worked, but i had to do that by remoting in using [censored] .Conrad Sallian wrote:
Could you tell us if you can still run Host manually (by running the Start Host command from the Windows menu)? Or are the Host files corrupted / deleted - perhaps because of Windows defender's false positive detection.
tho, this is a not at all solution.
