Remote Utilities 6.3 has been released. This update is free for all users of version 6.x. Below is a brief overview of the new version.

Monochrome icons

The Viewer interface is now mostly monochrome with simplified and less cluttered connection thumbnails:

Color codes

Connection icons in the address book now use colors to display different statuses:

Green. You are logged on to the remote PC.

Yellow. This color can mean either of the following:
  • The remote PC is accessible over the network and you can log on to it. In this case the thumbnail says “Logged off”.
  • The remote PC is accessible over the network but there are issues connecting to the Host due to Host not running or not installed. In this case the thumbnail says “Host unavailable”.

Black. This color can mean either of the following:
  • The remote PC is accessible and the Host is ready to accept connections (idle), but no connection attempts have been made yet.
  • The remote PC is offline and/or not accessible via network.

Revised “Send ID via email” configuration option

Generating an Internet ID and sending the ID via e-mail used to be a single option. Now these are two separate options – you can generate an ID without sending an e-mail. For example, you might want to copy the ID later from the RU Server “Idle connections” list, provided that you use the RU Server.

Another improvement is that you can specify your own text or reference code in the sent e-mails. This is helpful if you want to configure an e-mail filter to sort e-mails sent by different custom packages.

For example, you might want to configure 5 different packages for 5 different offices and enable the “Send ID via email option”. If you specify a different reference text/code in the “Custom text for email" field (e.g. “Office1”, “Office2” etc.) you can then easily sort these messages in your e-mail client to see which emails came from which offices.

Ability to hide Active Directory tree in the Viewer

Previously, if you installed the Viewer on a PC joined to an Active Directory domain, the AD tree was forcibly shown in the Viewer. You can now turn off displaying AD tree in the Viewer options:
