Quick Connect Module - Runs Without Installation

This feature is a major step for RUT in becoming a full-fledged remote support solution. The QuickConnect module is a stand-alone executable of the RUT-Server which can be run without installation and administrative privileges. In addition, the administrator can fully customize the file before distributing it to remote customers. All they need to do is to run the file and wait for the helpdesk technician to connect to them. Tabbed Interface

The Full Control mode now has tabs, like a web-browser. Tabs represent different remote PCs, so now you can have only window open in your taskbar and switch between different remote desktops by clicking on their respective tabs. The tabbed interface option can be disabled in the program settings.

Voice & Video Chat

This is a brand new mode in version 5.1. In this mode, you can talk to a user sitting at a remote PC and see them if they have a web camera. For compression, we use the open media file format WebM, a project sponsored by Google. This format ensures good audio/video quality even when working through not-so-fast Internet connections.

Gateway Mediation Server

The GMS is a stand-alone program that replicates the functionality of our global mediation server but can be downloaded and installed on your premises. GMS is available for free but you need at least one Helpdesk license in order to use it. Learn more..

New MSI-Configurator

The built-in MSI-Configurator has been significantly improved. There are now three types of RUT-Server distribution packages you can create:

  • Standard MSI package
  • ‘One-click’ package
  • QuickConnect package

Any package can be configured so that it sends the connection credentials to the administrator upon execution. This eliminates the need for the remote user to configure the RUT-Server. There are also some additional options such as disabling Start menu shortcuts creation.

Incorporating Your Logo

You can customize the Quick Connect module with your logo. The logo incorporation settings are available on a separate tab in the MSI-Configurator when you select the ‘Quick Connect’ distribution type. You can embed your logo, add extra text and also set the text and background color. Pretty basic settings so far, but we plan to improve them based on feedback from our users.

Address Book Manager

The address book manager is a storage area that enables you to work with multiple address books. You can also set the ‘Read only’ parameter for any address book in the storage thus protecting it from being modified.

New File Transfer Window

Now the file transfer window features tabs that can be ‘assigned’ to different remote PCs. This allows you to access files on different PCs from the same window. Other additions to the File transfer mode are:

  • Copy/move files between two remote PCs
  • Open a remote file, edit it and then save as if it was on your local disc
  • Shortcuts to frequently used places, such as My Computer
  • New address bar à la Windows 7.

Remote Server Settings

Now you can invoke remote RUT-Server settings from the context menu for the selected connection in the RUT-Viewer.

Extended ‘Block Remote Screen’ Feature

Many users asked us to make this feature less boring. Here it is – it now has extended text formatting and the ability to display graphics, video and even a webpage.
