Remote PC Access

Full Control

Full control connection mode allows you to view the remote computer screen, control its mouse cursor and send keyboard presses. In this mode, the type and position of the mouse pointer on the remote computer are also shown in the RUT-Viewer window. You can also capture sound on the remote computer, thus you will hear on the local computer everything played on the remote computer.

Firewall/NAT bypass

Bypass firewalls using the ‘Internet-ID’ feature. This feature is especially useful for providing remote technical support for your clients or help your family and friends. The remote PC’s Internet ID is all you need to know to establish connection.

File transfer

Basic operations with files and folders in a two-pane window, two-way drag'n'drop and smart file download resumption. Hotkeys are also supported.

Callback connection

The "Callback Connection" feature allows the RUT-Server to initiate a network connection. Due to this mechanism, it is possible to connect to an RUT-Server through a firewall or a NAT device or if its IP address is unknown.

Connect through host

The 'connect through host' option allows you to connect to a remote computer through another computer with a running RUT-Server. This comes in handy when there is no connection between RUT-Viewer and RUT-Server other than through the intermediate RUT-Server.

Multiple connections support

Supporting an unlimited number of simultaneous connections:

• RUT-Viewer can connect to several RUT-Servers at a time.
• RUT-Server can accept connections from several clients at once.
• Any mode and number of connections.

Administration/Management

Wake-on-LAN

WOL (Wake-on-LAN) is a technology allowing you to remotely switch on a computer with just a one click.

Network Map

It allows you to arrange computers on the network map showing their actual topological location.

Shutdown/Restart

This mode is used to control the basic power supply functions on the remote computer. The following operations are available:

• Restart the remote computer.
• Shut down the remote computer.
• Lock the remote computer.
• Logoff current user of the remote computer.

Inventory Management

A built-in Inventory Management module enables you to gather hardware and software inventory information from the remote PCs and build complete and comprehensive asset summary and inventory reports.

Remote installation

Remote Utilities has a built-in Remote Installation tool that enables you to automatically deploy the RUT-Server component in a domain network or workgroup environment.

MSI-Configurator

The RUT-Server distribution package is supplied as an MSI file data which is used by the Windows system installer. It allows you to automatically install the RUT-Server in a domain network with the help of a group policy in the server editions of Windows 2000/2003/2008 operating system. Remote Utilities also has a built-in MSI Configurator tool for quick and easy configuring the MSI distribution package before installation.

Remote registry

With the Remote Registry connection mode you can get direct access to the remote computer's registry and do the necessary edits to the registry.

Remote task manager

Remote Task manager is a connection mode you can use to get access to the list of processes, applications and services running on the remote machine.

Remote program execution

Remote Program Execution is a connection mode that allows you to run an executable file on the Remote computer. Along with Remote Registry and Remote Task Manager this connection mode greatly saves your time eliminating the necessity to connect to the remote desktop every time you need to do routine tasks.

Multiple monitors support

If the remote computer has several monitors, Remote Utilities allows you to view or control them simultaneously in one window or switch to the necessary monitor.

Terminal

The "Terminal" mode allows you to get complete access to the command line on the remote computer. You can enter commands and run programs in the "Terminal" window exactly the same as in the command line of the "cmd" system tool.

Video and Sound

Get remote sound

Remote Utilities allows all sounds playing on the remote computer to be sent to your computer.

Get remote camera and microphone

Remote Camera connection mode enables you to connect to video capturing devices (a web-camera, a TV tuner card etc.) as well as audio devices (such as a microphone) and transmit video/audio data from the remote computer to the local one with the ability to save/record the data to a file.

Capturing overlay video

This mode allows you to capture video played on the remote computer. Most video players use the video overlay technology to show the image on the screen, which reduces the CPU load and increases the image quality. Unlike many other remote administration programs, Remote Utilities allows you to capture overlay video without disabling this hardware acceleration technology.

Remote Surveillance

View only mode

Get a view of a remote computer's screen to find out what's going on without interfering in the work of the remote keyboard and mouse.

Screen recording

The Screen Recorder mode allows you to monitor user activity completely independently of the RUT-Viewer. It means that the administrator can use the comfortable user interface to specify the schedule that looks like this if you put it in a plain human language - "Make a screenshot every 2 minutes on business days from 8 AM to 5 PM". At any time the administrator can download the file where screenshots are stored for a certain day from the RUT-Server and use a special player to see what was going on the remote computer screen, for example, at 4 PM. It is also possible to protect the screenshot file against being deleted on the RUT-Server.

Hide tray icon

It is possible to hide the RUT-Server tray icon. However, this option can be disabled on request.

Communication

Send message

Send simple text message to the person sitting at the remote PC.

Text chat

Initiate a text chat with the person sitting at the remote PC. A separate chat window will open.

Performance

No mirror driver - no hardware conflicts

The Remote Utilities video capturing system shows unsurpassed performance rates without using the driver kernel, which prevents conflicts with the equipment and drivers. Also, Remote Utilities allows you to capture overlay video without disabling hardware acceleration, unlike in case of the standard capturing driver.

Adjustable color depth

You can select any color depth for any remote connection independently. Remote Utilities shows good performance even at 24-bit (TrueColor) depth. In fact, 24-bit or 16-bit color depth is recommended when working either over LAN or the Internet. You can also set FPS (frames per second) thus adjusting the CPU usage.

Economode

Economode relates to network usage - when it is on, traffic consumption drops significantly, which is suitable for slow networks (Dial-up, GPRS). Network traffic can be reduced to 10-50 times as compared to the standard mode of operation.

Security

Industry-standard security algorithms

All data Remote Utilities sends over the network is encrypted with the secure encryption algorithms (a 2048-bit public key and AES with a 256-bit session key) certified by the Microsoft Corporation. You can specify the security level in the RUT-Server settings. Two security subsystems are available: password protection and Windows security system (active directory). It is also possible to assign RUT-Server only to a certain network interface.

IP-Filter

Allows connection only from explicitly specified IP addresses and networks and blocks attempts to get access to RUT-Server from IP addresses and networks not in the list.

Password and DDos

Protection against brute force password cracking attempts and DDos attacks.

Event log

RUT-Server has an event logging option that enables you to keep the records of all the actions and events of the program.

Lock input and blank remote screen

Ability to enable lock keyboard input option and blank the remote monitor screen either before connecting to the remote PC or after the connection has been established.

Interface

Quick and easy installation

Remote Utilities is really easy to deploy and install both over local area networks and over wide area networks. There are several ways to install the product:

• Using the installation file run locally on the target computer.
• Using the remote installation feature built into the RUT-Viewer (it can be used both in a domain and in a regular network).
• Using a group policy. Remote Utilities is supplied as an MSI distribution package so you can use the features of RUT-Server operating systems to deploy the program over the network (it can be used only in a domain).

Windows 7 and Aero Support

Compatibility with Windows 7/Vista and Aero Interface (can be disabled). Fast user switch support in Windows XP/2003.

Drag and Drop files and folders

Remote Utilities is deeply integrated with the drag-and-drop mechanism of the system. You can drag and drop files and folders directly onto the remote screen window and from it, which makes working with files as easy as possible. The file transfer mode also completely supports this mechanism.

Quick RUT-Server search in the network

RUT-Viewer has a built-in system of searching the network for RUT-Servers. The search uses IP address ranges so you can configure the search ranges. After the search system creates the list of computers where RUT-Server is installed, you can easily add it to the address book.

Multilingual user-interface (coming soon)

Scalable thumbnails of remote computer screens in the connection list

Selecting the mode for viewing the connection list when easily resizable screenshots from remote computer are updated and displayed instead of remote RUT-Server icons.

High resolution support

Remote Utilities allows you to work with any screen resolution at both the RUT-Viewer and the RUT-Server sides.

Automatic login

You have an option to store connection passwords locally in the RUT-Viewer which enables hassle-free automatic log in to remote computers in your connection list.

Portability

The portable version of RUT-Viewer can run from a USB-stick. All the configuration files are stored in the same folder as the program itself. No installation is required.
